WHAT ARE ANTIQUE RUGS & WHY ARE THEY SPECIAL?

A hand knotted oriental carpet can range from semi old, being under 50 years, old 50 to 80 years or antique ranging from 80 to over 100 years old. Antique rugs come from all over the world; each region developed their own weaving style and utilised materials that were both beautiful and capable of standing the test of time. Traditional, antique carpets and rugs are visually stunning and manage to maintain their quality with age.

Antique Persian rugs take you on a magical journey, they reveal hidden histories and age old traditions passed down for thousands of years. Everything about the rug can have a symbolic meaning from the flowers and figures to the colours that change over time. Its always exciting when we come across a rug that we fall in love with and know that it will become an antique rug with time. We can’t predict when we will find these rugs as they are so hard to find but when we do they always are worth restoring and preserving.
